The Economy Looks Good š²
The latest economic data delivered an unmistakable message: The U.S. economy is healthy and growing.
The boom experienced during the recovery from the pandemic may be over for most Americans, but figures on jobless claims and retail sales released toward the end of last week showed there is still underlying strength in both the labor market and among consumers.
The numbers should help put to rest worry about a potential recession that had cropped up since the jobs report for July revealed weak hiring and surging unemployment š
How Walmart Allayed Worry About The U.S. Shopper And Sent Its Stock Soaring š
Walmart can do no wrong, or so it seems following the retailerās second-quarter results, which not only beat expectations but also eased fear of a long slowdown in consumer spending.
The enormous retailerās earnings are closely watched at the best of times š
But this quarterās results were even more hotly anticipated because markets were on high alert for signs that consumersā spending power is waning.
The company put those concerns to rest from the get-go.
āSo far, we arenāt experiencing a weaker consumer overall,ā CEO Doug McMillon said on a call with analysts Thursday.
For the U.S., same-store sales grew 4.2% compared with the same quarter last year, beating estimates for 3.6% š
It cited strong momentum in online orders, which grew by 22%, and was led by pickup and deliveries from stores.
It would be very surprising if the solid view Walmart has offered on the consumer proves to be a head fake.

Nvidiaās Domination Set To Continue š»
Nvidia continues to climb, recovering from a recent sell-off.
Nvidia remains dominant as the provider of artificial-intelligence chips to large technology companies despite an increasing number of rivals hoping to displace it.
Analysts at Citi have forecast Nvidia will maintain a market share of around 90% in AI-related chips for the next two to three years šŖ
So far, there have been little tangible results for serious would-be competitors.
That means rivals look unlikely to be able to take advantage of any potential delay in Nvidiaās shipments of its next-generation Blackwell chip.
